DRSRS-IROKO ANALYTICS MOU

Memorandum of Understanding with Iroko Analytics on 18th March 2026.

The Government of Kenya, through the Directorate of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing (DRSRS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iroko Analytics, marking a key step in advancing climate action through innovation and collaboration.

Speaking at the event, DRSRS Director Dr. Moses Akali commended the technical teams involved and noted that the partnership aligns with national priorities such as the Climate Change Act (2016), the National Climate Change Action Plan, and the Presidential 15 Billion Trees Initiative. The collaboration supports sustainable development, carbon sequestration, and ecological restoration, while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The initiative will focus on five counties—Narok, Kilifi, Lamu, Garissa, and Nakuru—covering significant high-carbon potential areas. It aims to deliver climate, biodiversity, and socio-economic benefits while promoting community empowerment, transparency, and equitable benefit sharing. The partnership combines DRSRS expertise in geospatial monitoring with Iroko Analytics’ capabilities in carbon analytics to support afforestation and environmental projects. It also provides learning and research opportunities for students and young professionals. Overall, the MoU highlights the importance of public-private partnerships and innovation in driving Kenya’s climate and development agenda.
